October Wedding

11 Oct

Sara and Sean were married last October at the Canal in Ballard.  When I first met with Sara we talked about her vintage themed wedding and her love of texture and color.  Sara’s personality really came through with her choices of flowers and textures she chose to use in her floral arrangements.  It was so much fun to create something so unique.

Roses, calla lilies, hydrangea, freesia in shades of white, purple, blue, orange and red combined with the textures of rose hips, thistle, curly willow, grevelia and nine bark were some of the many elements we used to create Sara’s bouquet.

For the bridesmaids we eliminated the calla lilies and added gerbera daisies in a deep orange color.  They certainly made a pop against the bright blue dresses!

Centerpieces were small arrangements of all the brightly colored flowers with the addition of mini pumpkins.

The one thing no florist ever wants to happen actually happened to me at this event!  The large cylinder vases I use for alter arrangements actually broke as I was placing a mini pumpkin in it.  I couldn’t believe it and of course, panic set in.   Lucky for me the bride was flexible and we were able to cover up the hole and large crack using packing tape and the burlap I had packed worked to create a draping effect.  The pumpkins I had planned on putting in the vase were placed at the bottom of the burlap.  Overall it was a unique design and the bride and groom were pleased.   A large cluster of curly willow held hanging votive candle holders.

I loved the color combination and textures used in these arrangements.   Sara and Sean were a great, fun couple to work with.  Thank you Sonja of Simply Sonja for many of these wonderful images.
