Vendor Relations

23 Jan

I am very pleased to announce that I have just received the “Best of the Knot – 2013” vendor award!  This honor is given to vendors who receive at least a four star rating by their clients as well as a minimum amount of reviews.  I have been so blessed to have received such kind reviews by my wonderful clients.  I have to say, I am pretty excited to have the new badge on the blog, web-site and facebook – but I am also looking forward to receiving the plaque for my office and decal for my car!

This leads me also to talk about the importance of vendor relationships, because the reality is I couldn’t have done it without all the wonderful vendors who have supported me from the beginning.  Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering and Events, have been one of my first and very important vendors who sent so many referrals my way as well as used my services to design the booth for the Seattle Wedding Show, provide flowers for open houses, hired me to decorate the Hall at Fauntleroy during the holidays and many other tasks that involve creativity and design.  I also worked for them several years as a lead server where I learned valuable insight into the orchestration of receptions and events, which has been very helpful when working with clients.  I am so grateful to know the owners David Haggerty and David Meckstroth, the sales and office staff Kristin, Brittany, Reed, Carol, Karna, and all of the employees at Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes.  Hopefully everyone knows how very much I appreciate their support and help.

When I first started this business, I have to be honest,  I was a little intimidated by other florists – feeling perhaps my work wasn’t quite as good as theirs or I didn’t have the knowledge they had.   What I have learned since is what a supportive community it can be.  Often when I visit the flower market I have wonderful conversations with other vendors, sharing things I have learned as well as receiving tips and ideas from them.  I am not hesitant to recommend another florists if I am unable to do a job for any reason.

I can’t tell you how important the relationship between myself and photographers can be.  It would be inappropriate for me to say around to get photographs of the wedding party with their flowers, and although I try to take photos beforehand,  I do not have the photography skills to do the flowers and arrangements justice that is seen through the eyes of a professional (although this is a skill I hope to learn sometime soon).   The photographs in this post were taken at the Seattle Wedding Show by Alante Photography, and show an entirely different perspective than I was able to catch with the photographs I shared earlier.

What I can tell you is that I am a proud member of an amazingly talented group of artists which include  caterers, DJ’s, photographers, florists, wedding planners and so much more.    Each and every one bringing their own talents to help create the perfect wedding or event for their clients.    Many of these vendors have become my friends as well as co-workers.  Working together is crucial to making sure each and every event goes smoothly.
