Megan and Garrett

13 Jan

Summer in the Pacific Northwest is often on the cooler side and when we do get really nice weather we lap it up like a thirsty dog!  However, the summer of 2015 was something to behold – warmer than normal temperatures and, if I recall, only one day of rain the entire summer.  While it was enjoyable it did make some challenges for wedding florists.  In some cases product was hard to locate because warm weather made the flowers bloom earlier than normal or it was too hot for some flowers and the season was cut short.  I know myself there were events where I worried the flowers would wilt before the wedding even began, but I was lucky enough to not have this happen!

Megan and Garrett’s wedding was held at the Woodinville Lavender Farm on a warm day in July.  Lavender held special meaning for Megan and  she wanted to incorporate it in her arrangements as much as possible.  Unfortunately, most of the lavender was already drying up and I was having a difficult time locating any.  Luckily at the last minute I was able raid my neighbor’s lavender bush since it still had just enough good blooms available.

Megan also loved maidenhair fern which we incorporated into her bouquet and all of the arrangements wherever we could.   We chose to keep the table arrangements simple using a variety of bud vases filled with small clusters of flowers or single blooms.  Megan rented vintage china and the plates were placed on the table when the guests arrived so there was not a lot of need for a ton of floral.

All of the photography was provided by the very talented Ali Horman of Ali Horman Photography.  I love how she captured all of the details of Megan and Garrett’s special day.  Thank you Ali!

Lisa and Matt

7 Jan

I first met Lisa and Matt at last spring while they were in town meeting with their wedding planners, the lovely ladies from Maris Events.  Lisa and Matt are from the east coast and were planning their June destination wedding at Alderbrook Resort and Spa.  I knew immediately this was a couple I wanted to work with – they were so sweet and such a delight to work with.

If you have never had the chance to go to Alderbrook Resort and Spa, make sure you get there at some point.  It is a lovely setting and your blood pressure is sure to go down a few notches just being in the quiet, wooded setting while enjoying the Hood Canal water view.

I loved Lisa and Matt’s bold use of color – red’s, yellows and green’s.  Roses, orchids, hydrangeas and succulents were featured in the arrangements.  Lisa carried a bouquet filled with hydrangeas, roses, orchids and freesia.  Table arrangements had floating candles in simple pillar vases with large clusters of flowers and succulents surrounded by glassy baby votives.

I created a large arbor arrangement that was transferred to the head table after the ceremony was over so they could continue to enjoy it.  Of course, I had my right hand man/best friend (my husband) helping me out (see bottom picture).  That man always amazes me with his willingness to help out when needed!  Of course, I usually have to buy him a nice beer or whiskey and occasionally a meal, but it is well worth it.

Alissa Lawton of Maris Events created all of the paper products used on the tables.  There is no shortage of talent in my dear friend Alissa and it is always a pleasure working with her and her assistant Elle.

Let’s not forget the talented team of Rick + Anna Photography who provided the images below.  They continue to capture memorable moments and are always a fun couple to have on the team.   One of the requests Lisa and Matt made was to have photos of them with their vendors so I was lucky enough to get a photo of me with them – which almost never happens so this is a special treasure!

Working in this industry you get to work with a lot of vendors and often you make lifetime friendships and partnerships that work really well.  We call ourselves “The A-Team” and everyone from the wedding planner to the DJ worked so well together that the event came together without a hitch!

Liz and Trevor

21 Dec

Well, here it is December and I realize just how far behind I am on all my blogging (and Christmas).  What a crazy year it has been!  I somehow or other managed to create 29 weddings this year and a bulk of them were in the month of August.  Needless to say, I may need to hire someone for 2016 just to keep up with all the blogging, paperwork and deliveries as one person can not do it alone anymore!  Thanks to all my wonderful family and friends who helped out – I could not have done it without you!

That being said, I am going to try to finally catch up and start posting some of the weddings I did this year.  However, I can’t wait to post about this wedding as it was one of the most anticipated and special weddings of the year – our daughter, Liz and her fiancé Trevor were married on November 14th!  Almost a year of anticipation and preparations went into this event and everyone contributed.  My husband created the water-color images used on the invitations as well as the frames on the tables and arbor behind the sweetheart table.  I made the bridal veil, flower girl dresses, bathrobes for the bridesmaids and lots of signage!  Our daughter, Rachel, helped with the design and assembly of the invitations and programs.  We also had a special afternoon of assembling party favors with Trevor’s mother, sister and niece.

Oh, and the desserts!  Liz made the adorable cake topper for the wedding cake which a family friend baked and decorated.  Liz and I worked on pie crusts for weeks.  Trevor and his mother, Ruth, prepared the fillings for the pies and baked dozens and dozens of cookies the day before the wedding.  Grandma Lillie and Aunt Kathleen made cookies as well and Grandma Claremay made her famous flat apple pie.  Anyone with a sweet tooth was in heaven!

Everyone of the couples I work with hold a very special place in my heart and I just love each and every client I have worked with, but of course this one was extra special in so many ways.  To start with, she is of course our beautiful, wonderful daughter who just happened to marry a really great guy (also known as Mr. Wonderful around here).  When you create the flowers for your daughters wedding they have to be the best you have ever done and then some – so the pressure was on.   Being Mother-of-the-Bride also added a  little more pressure as there were many things to do and places to be.  However, with the help of my very good friend, Nan, and my sister-in-law, Tana, once I created the mock-up of the centerpieces they took off and finished them for me so I could spend time with Liz and be there for all the festivities.  Even at last minute our friend, Carina, came over and finished the garlands the day of the wedding so we could all get ready.   Of course, I can not thank the wonderful Alissa Lawton of Maris Events enough for going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure everything went smoothly the day of the wedding.  She also created the thank you notes for each guest and the table numbers!  With the help of her assistant Ellie they did all of the very detailed set-up for the wedding and reception so I could be mother of the bride.  Words can not quite express my gratitude to everyone who helped out for this event.

Liz and Trevor chose a color pallet of peach, mint green, blush, gold and silver with the feel of a Pacific Northwest winter wonderland.   Peonies, garden roses, lisianthus, ranunculus, and snowberries filled her lush bouquet.  An added touch of hand made charms with pictures of their parents wedding day were attached with ribbon and strands of miniature pearls I saved from my wedding bouquet.  The wedding was held at the beautiful Church at Fauntleroy in West Seattle and the reception was across the street at the Hall at Fauntleroy.

Although it was hard to choose the best photographs to show (because there are so many) hopefully you can get an idea of what a lovely day it was.  As always, Rick+Anna Photography did an amazing job capturing all of the details and special moments of the day.  Although it poured rain all day the team really caught some great shots.  I especially love the shot of the maid-of-honor (and sister), Rachel, escorting her sister to the first look in the pouring rain.  Liz almost fell so Rachel insisted she take off her shoes to walk in the pouring rain to see her groom!  Needless to say, she made it safely.

Enjoy!

Love at the Winery

11 Sep

Now that the crazy wedding rush of summer is over, I finally get a chance to share some of the many wonderful weddings I worked on this spring and summer.

On a beautiful sunny day in May Amy and Rodney were married at DeLille Cellars Chateau in Woodinville Washington.  DeLille Cellars is a venue filled with rustic charm influenced by French architecture.  The ten acre estate has beautiful gardens, ponds and alpacas peering over the fence nearby.

I loved working with Amy and Rodney creating their dream wedding.  Did I mention the most they had the most adorable ring-bearers ever?

Thank you Brittany of Blue Rose Photography for the beautiful pictures below.

Coral Wedding

10 Jun

Two years ago I was lucky enough to work with this fantastic couple on their wedding.  I knew the minute I met Melissa that this was going to be a fun project!  Her color pallet of coral, mint and navy with lots of details was a refreshing change from all the purple I did that year.

The wedding was held at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Reception following at the Museum of History and Industry on South Lake Union.  If you haven’t ever been to the Museum of History and Industry, it is a very enjoyable place to tour and see some of Seattle’s history as well as a great venue to for a reception!

The bride and bridesmaids all got ready at Melissa and Chris’s home on Queen Ann and we decorated it with a beautiful garland around the front door and master bedroom window.  Although I was extremely nervous hanging on to my husband while he hung out of the third floor window, it all came together in the end (whew!)

The bride carried a large bouquet of dahlias, garden roses, roses, hypericum berries and spider mums and for fun – a touch of feathers!  On their first date the groom brought Melissa some spider mums so she wanted to incorporate them into the bouquet as a sweet reminder of that special day.

The tables were decorated with navy chevron table runners and Melissa’s collection of vintage jadeite glassware.  Vintage styled postcards acted as table numbers and mint green suitcases held a large colorful floral arrangements.

Glamping

12 May

With the approach of Memorial Day and camping season starting up, I thought this would be a great time to post about the “glamping” photo shoot I participated in back in May of 2013.   Coordinated by the fabulous ladies at Maris Events and amazing photography team of Rick+Anna Photography we were given complete freedom to run with our ideas to assist in creating the perfect “glamping” themed wedding.

I loaded up the van with just about every prop I could imagine – including a steamer trunk, all the vintage suitcases I owned as well as buckets full of colorful flowers and headed to the beautiful Natures Connection Place in Arlington, Washington.  It was a gorgeous day and we immediately started setting up the area to be a picture perfect setting for the bride and groom.

With all the greenery surrounding the area, we decided to use bright reds, oranges and pops of yellow with touches of gold to add a little bit of glamor to the outdoors.  A candelabra created using wood branches sprayed gold added a touch of elegance to the hand made wood table provided by Elpis and Wood.    Yummy desserts created by Dianne’s Delights were almost too much for us to resist during shooting, but we did our best!  That’s not to say, however, that they didn’t get eaten – we saved that for later.  The talented husband and wife team of Citlali Creativo created all the great stationery products including save the date, invitations, candle wraps, programs and even cake pop flags!

I had such fun working with so many talented and delightful vendors.  Maybe this will inspire everyone to go camping – even me!

Roche Harbor Wedding

9 Apr

I have to tell you, Melinda and Casey have been one of my all time favorite couples to work with.  Not only are they two of the nicest people you will ever meet, but there is something about the love they share for each other that just radiates.  Their wedding was held last September at the beautiful Roche Harbor Resort in the San Juan Islands.  With outdoor weddings, you never know how the weather will be here in the Pacific Northwest, but we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day of warm temperatures and sunshine.

Casey is a fabulous chef and for the rehearsal dinner he and his fellow associates put together one of the most amazing rehearsal dinners I have ever had.  If you ever need a caterer, check out his web-site at www.barnandfield.com, he creates really amazing food.  The dinner was held at the beach adjacent to the resort followed by a beautiful sunset.  Guests enjoyed roasting marshmallows and making ‘smores by the campfire.  It was a great way to set the mood for the wedding the next day.

Melinda had a lot of ideas for the overall feel of the wedding design, yet was open to any suggestions I made.  She also allowed a lot of creative freedom when it came to designing their wedding and all the little details, the result being one of my favorite weddings.

The bridesmaids wore slate grey dresses complimented by flowers in shades of blush, pink, coral and white used to create the bouquets.  Did I mention they had the most adorable ring bearer ever (who just happens to be our great nephew)?  He surprised everyone by walking very carefully down the aisle with a ring box designed just for Melinda and Casey.

For ceremony decor, we rented a birch arbor and glass globes from Vintage Ambiance.  The globes were filled with simple clusters of flowers and hung from the arbor.  With the backdrop of the harbor and the approaching dusk, it set the stage for a beautiful ceremony.   Posters made by Citalia Creative greeted guests at the entrance as well as the reception area.  My husband and I also made directional signs leading to the ceremony.  Photographs are taken by the fabulous team of Rick + Anna Photography and, as always, they captured the day perfectly.

The reception area was decorated with blush colored linens rented from BBJ Linens, with floral centerpieces in mercury glass vases and tall trumpet vases placed on wood discs with touches of moss at the base and surrounded by a variety of mercury glass votives.  Sequined blush colored linens were used for the sweetheart and cake tables.

In honor of Casey’s chef background, guests were all given vials of Himilayian Pink Salt, Black Hawaiian Salt and Kosher Salt in a packet with a sprig of fresh rosemary attached to each package.

We rented a crystal chandelier from Vintage Ambiance and hung it from the beams in the dining area.  Seeing that the chandelier would get lost if we didn’t decorate it a little, I created a garland of greens, flowers and curly willow to accent the beams.  The standard white folding chairs provided by the resort really didn’t work with the overall look and feel we were trying to achieve, so vintage farm style chairs were rented from Orcas Events.

The large fireplace was a perfect spot to place a collection of mercury glass votives and candle holders as well as rustic lanterns and floating candles which were placed on wood discs with touches of moss at the base.  All the sparking candlelight added a very romantic touch to the room.
