Lisa and Matt

7 Jan

I first met Lisa and Matt at last spring while they were in town meeting with their wedding planners, the lovely ladies from Maris Events.  Lisa and Matt are from the east coast and were planning their June destination wedding at Alderbrook Resort and Spa.  I knew immediately this was a couple I wanted to work with – they were so sweet and such a delight to work with.

If you have never had the chance to go to Alderbrook Resort and Spa, make sure you get there at some point.  It is a lovely setting and your blood pressure is sure to go down a few notches just being in the quiet, wooded setting while enjoying the Hood Canal water view.

I loved Lisa and Matt’s bold use of color – red’s, yellows and green’s.  Roses, orchids, hydrangeas and succulents were featured in the arrangements.  Lisa carried a bouquet filled with hydrangeas, roses, orchids and freesia.  Table arrangements had floating candles in simple pillar vases with large clusters of flowers and succulents surrounded by glassy baby votives.

I created a large arbor arrangement that was transferred to the head table after the ceremony was over so they could continue to enjoy it.  Of course, I had my right hand man/best friend (my husband) helping me out (see bottom picture).  That man always amazes me with his willingness to help out when needed!  Of course, I usually have to buy him a nice beer or whiskey and occasionally a meal, but it is well worth it.

Alissa Lawton of Maris Events created all of the paper products used on the tables.  There is no shortage of talent in my dear friend Alissa and it is always a pleasure working with her and her assistant Elle.

Let’s not forget the talented team of Rick + Anna Photography who provided the images below.  They continue to capture memorable moments and are always a fun couple to have on the team.   One of the requests Lisa and Matt made was to have photos of them with their vendors so I was lucky enough to get a photo of me with them – which almost never happens so this is a special treasure!

Working in this industry you get to work with a lot of vendors and often you make lifetime friendships and partnerships that work really well.  We call ourselves “The A-Team” and everyone from the wedding planner to the DJ worked so well together that the event came together without a hitch!

Love at the Winery

11 Sep

Now that the crazy wedding rush of summer is over, I finally get a chance to share some of the many wonderful weddings I worked on this spring and summer.

On a beautiful sunny day in May Amy and Rodney were married at DeLille Cellars Chateau in Woodinville Washington.  DeLille Cellars is a venue filled with rustic charm influenced by French architecture.  The ten acre estate has beautiful gardens, ponds and alpacas peering over the fence nearby.

I loved working with Amy and Rodney creating their dream wedding.  Did I mention the most they had the most adorable ring-bearers ever?

Thank you Brittany of Blue Rose Photography for the beautiful pictures below.

Coral Wedding

10 Jun

Two years ago I was lucky enough to work with this fantastic couple on their wedding.  I knew the minute I met Melissa that this was going to be a fun project!  Her color pallet of coral, mint and navy with lots of details was a refreshing change from all the purple I did that year.

The wedding was held at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Reception following at the Museum of History and Industry on South Lake Union.  If you haven’t ever been to the Museum of History and Industry, it is a very enjoyable place to tour and see some of Seattle’s history as well as a great venue to for a reception!

The bride and bridesmaids all got ready at Melissa and Chris’s home on Queen Ann and we decorated it with a beautiful garland around the front door and master bedroom window.  Although I was extremely nervous hanging on to my husband while he hung out of the third floor window, it all came together in the end (whew!)

The bride carried a large bouquet of dahlias, garden roses, roses, hypericum berries and spider mums and for fun – a touch of feathers!  On their first date the groom brought Melissa some spider mums so she wanted to incorporate them into the bouquet as a sweet reminder of that special day.

The tables were decorated with navy chevron table runners and Melissa’s collection of vintage jadeite glassware.  Vintage styled postcards acted as table numbers and mint green suitcases held a large colorful floral arrangements.

Glamping

12 May

With the approach of Memorial Day and camping season starting up, I thought this would be a great time to post about the “glamping” photo shoot I participated in back in May of 2013.   Coordinated by the fabulous ladies at Maris Events and amazing photography team of Rick+Anna Photography we were given complete freedom to run with our ideas to assist in creating the perfect “glamping” themed wedding.

I loaded up the van with just about every prop I could imagine – including a steamer trunk, all the vintage suitcases I owned as well as buckets full of colorful flowers and headed to the beautiful Natures Connection Place in Arlington, Washington.  It was a gorgeous day and we immediately started setting up the area to be a picture perfect setting for the bride and groom.

With all the greenery surrounding the area, we decided to use bright reds, oranges and pops of yellow with touches of gold to add a little bit of glamor to the outdoors.  A candelabra created using wood branches sprayed gold added a touch of elegance to the hand made wood table provided by Elpis and Wood.    Yummy desserts created by Dianne’s Delights were almost too much for us to resist during shooting, but we did our best!  That’s not to say, however, that they didn’t get eaten – we saved that for later.  The talented husband and wife team of Citlali Creativo created all the great stationery products including save the date, invitations, candle wraps, programs and even cake pop flags!

I had such fun working with so many talented and delightful vendors.  Maybe this will inspire everyone to go camping – even me!

Turquoise and Pink

17 Feb

Sometimes when I meet with a bride at our initial consultation, she has tons of ideas and isn’t sure how to make them all work.  This bride, however, was one who pulled out all the stops when it came to details big and small and making it all come together.  Turquoise tennis shoes, a turquoise truck, custom mailbox, hand made signage, a swing made special for the bride and groom, custom forks for the cake, sparklers, and even a turquoise typewriter!  She really made her color pallet of pink and turquoise come together using a variety of elements.  I can’t even begin to list all the details, but you can see some of them below.

Britta and Zach were married on a warm sunny day in September at the beautiful Twin Willow Gardens in Snohomish.  The venue is absolutely lovely, complete with a forest glen for the ceremony, ponds, and gardens throughout.  Their photographer described the venue as “Little Narnia”, and I couldn’t agree more.

Speaking of photography, these stunning photos were taken by the extremely talented and amazing Katleyn James  from Virginia.  I love all the details she took the time to capture.  Check out her blog to see more of Britta and Zach’s wedding – http://katelynjamesblog.com/seattle-wedding-photographer-rustic-outdoor-wedding-venue/.

Oh what fun it was to decorate the iron arbor.  I always love doing large ceremony pieces, and this was no exception – I could have worked all day!  Hydrangeas, snapdragons, dahlias, roses and greenery galore!  Could it be in a prettier setting than this forest glen?

The brides bouquet was a combination of garden, standard and spray roses in shades of white, pale pink and bright pink paired with locally grown pink and white dahlias.  To complete the look, lace from the brides mother’s wedding gown was used to wrap the bouquet and charms of grandparents were attached with a satin ribbon.  The final detail was a vintage broach of her grandmothers.  It comes as no surprise that the bride wore turquoise shoes when she walked down the aisle and changed into turquoise Converse tennis shoes just for dancing!

To add a little variety, a pop of bright green was added to the centerpieces which were placed upon vintage holders.

The beautiful cake, made by Creme de la Creme Bakery had more than three dozen pale pink roses and of course, custom forks!

Who wouldn’t love a getaway truck, especially if it was a bright turquoise blue one decorated with pink and turquoise tin cans!   Oh and the sparklers I mentioned earlier…

As always, I provided a complimentary bottle of champagne for the bride and groom to enjoy.  What a pleasure it was working with this couple.  Thank you Britta and Zach and thank you Katelyn James for the stunning photography!

Coral, Navy and Yellow

2 Feb

Spring and all the lovely colors of spring – how I swoon!  For some it is the soft pastels, pinks, lavenders, pale yellows and soft greens.  For others it is the brighter colors, coral, bright yellow, shades of orange and cheerful spring greens.

I love the color coral.  One of my favorite colors to wear, and if I could, I would paint at least one room in my house this cheerful color (but I would probably be vetoed by my husband).  Although some think this color is primarily a summer color, what a better way to bring cheer to spring than by adding this lovely shade to any floral design?

Officially spring starts at the end of March, but to me prime spring season is May – the beginning of peony season!  I don’t know a bride who can’t appreciate the beauty of peonies.  With their full, lush, rounded blooms, no other flower quite represent romance more!  And don’t you know it, peonies come in a stunning shade of coral!   With their bright petals and fluffy yellow center, what more could you ask for?

Carolyn’s color pallet of coral and navy was the perfect setting for me to use the “Coral Charm” peony.  Pops of yellow, green and cream enhanced the beauty of the coral charm peonies.

I always enjoy it when a bride brings a unique container to use for creating a flower arrangement in.  In this case, a vintage shoe shine box was used for a large arrangement and placed on the guest book table.

14_0531_carolyn_chris_WED_01954

The ceremony and reception were held at Melrose Market Studios, an urban event space on the west edge of Capitol Hill in Seattle.  Located in a refurbished historic 1927 building that boasts exposed red brick walls, huge Douglas fir beams, high ceilings, and polished concrete floors.  I created a large floral garland to enhance the ceremony area – there’s nothing more charming than a garland to add a touch of whimsy to an ordinary brick wall!

14_0531_carolyn_chris_WED_01924

The bride decorated vases in various shapes and sizes with touches of gold paint and twine which were used to hold small clusters of flowers for the centerpieces.  It is amazing how much impact small arrangements can have on a table and when you add votive candles you just can’t go wrong.

Thank you Angela and Evan Photography for the beautiful images.

True Love

14 Aug

I am always honored to be chosen to create floral arrangements for any wedding.  I love seeing young couples looking at their future ahead and helping plan their special day.   Everything about young love is refreshing, how they look into each others eyes, communicate and still have the newness of expressing how they feel about things, yet still respecting the others feelings.

I was especially honored to have been chosen for this wedding.  Although this is not young love, it certainly is true love.  This couple has been together for 20 years!  Unfortunately, ridiculous laws  excluded them from sharing the union of marriage together.  Luckily in November, voters in Washington state  approved same sex marriage and they immediately started planning their long overdue wedding.   I really enjoyed working with Robyn and Noreen, helping them choose their flowers and create bouquets that fit both of their personalities.  The refreshing colors of orange, green, white and yellow were added additional cheerfulness on a beautiful spring day.
