Liz and Trevor

21 Dec

Well, here it is December and I realize just how far behind I am on all my blogging (and Christmas).  What a crazy year it has been!  I somehow or other managed to create 29 weddings this year and a bulk of them were in the month of August.  Needless to say, I may need to hire someone for 2016 just to keep up with all the blogging, paperwork and deliveries as one person can not do it alone anymore!  Thanks to all my wonderful family and friends who helped out – I could not have done it without you!

That being said, I am going to try to finally catch up and start posting some of the weddings I did this year.  However, I can’t wait to post about this wedding as it was one of the most anticipated and special weddings of the year – our daughter, Liz and her fiancé Trevor were married on November 14th!  Almost a year of anticipation and preparations went into this event and everyone contributed.  My husband created the water-color images used on the invitations as well as the frames on the tables and arbor behind the sweetheart table.  I made the bridal veil, flower girl dresses, bathrobes for the bridesmaids and lots of signage!  Our daughter, Rachel, helped with the design and assembly of the invitations and programs.  We also had a special afternoon of assembling party favors with Trevor’s mother, sister and niece.

Oh, and the desserts!  Liz made the adorable cake topper for the wedding cake which a family friend baked and decorated.  Liz and I worked on pie crusts for weeks.  Trevor and his mother, Ruth, prepared the fillings for the pies and baked dozens and dozens of cookies the day before the wedding.  Grandma Lillie and Aunt Kathleen made cookies as well and Grandma Claremay made her famous flat apple pie.  Anyone with a sweet tooth was in heaven!

Everyone of the couples I work with hold a very special place in my heart and I just love each and every client I have worked with, but of course this one was extra special in so many ways.  To start with, she is of course our beautiful, wonderful daughter who just happened to marry a really great guy (also known as Mr. Wonderful around here).  When you create the flowers for your daughters wedding they have to be the best you have ever done and then some – so the pressure was on.   Being Mother-of-the-Bride also added a  little more pressure as there were many things to do and places to be.  However, with the help of my very good friend, Nan, and my sister-in-law, Tana, once I created the mock-up of the centerpieces they took off and finished them for me so I could spend time with Liz and be there for all the festivities.  Even at last minute our friend, Carina, came over and finished the garlands the day of the wedding so we could all get ready.   Of course, I can not thank the wonderful Alissa Lawton of Maris Events enough for going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure everything went smoothly the day of the wedding.  She also created the thank you notes for each guest and the table numbers!  With the help of her assistant Ellie they did all of the very detailed set-up for the wedding and reception so I could be mother of the bride.  Words can not quite express my gratitude to everyone who helped out for this event.

Liz and Trevor chose a color pallet of peach, mint green, blush, gold and silver with the feel of a Pacific Northwest winter wonderland.   Peonies, garden roses, lisianthus, ranunculus, and snowberries filled her lush bouquet.  An added touch of hand made charms with pictures of their parents wedding day were attached with ribbon and strands of miniature pearls I saved from my wedding bouquet.  The wedding was held at the beautiful Church at Fauntleroy in West Seattle and the reception was across the street at the Hall at Fauntleroy.

Although it was hard to choose the best photographs to show (because there are so many) hopefully you can get an idea of what a lovely day it was.  As always, Rick+Anna Photography did an amazing job capturing all of the details and special moments of the day.  Although it poured rain all day the team really caught some great shots.  I especially love the shot of the maid-of-honor (and sister), Rachel, escorting her sister to the first look in the pouring rain.  Liz almost fell so Rachel insisted she take off her shoes to walk in the pouring rain to see her groom!  Needless to say, she made it safely.

Enjoy!

In the Desert

27 Oct

Wow, what a crazy summer it has been!  I have been so busy, I have not had time to post any of events for some time and thought now the busy wedding season is over, I could finally catch up on some much overdue blogging.

Back in January I attended a web-site design class and had the honor of meeting two fabulous photographers – Nicole Conner of Nicole Conner Photography and Miguel Cornelio of Momentus Images.  When I found out they were both from Wenatchee, Washington – the town I lived in during my teen years, I had to introduce myself.  Turns out Miguel lives not too far from where I now live!  When they reached out and asked me to provide florals for a photo shoot they were planning in May, of course I happily obliged.  These two are amazing photographers and it was such a pleasure working with them. They gave me the freedom to create with a soft color pallet being my only guideline.  Of course, I had to add a little pop of color into the mix!  May is such an amazing time for flowers with peonies and double tulips in abundance – you just can’t go wrong.  Sadly, I could not be there for the shoot, but I just love how the pictures turned out.

As with any photo shoot – it really takes a village to pull it all together.  These amazing vendors really brought it all together.

Love at the Winery

11 Sep

Now that the crazy wedding rush of summer is over, I finally get a chance to share some of the many wonderful weddings I worked on this spring and summer.

On a beautiful sunny day in May Amy and Rodney were married at DeLille Cellars Chateau in Woodinville Washington.  DeLille Cellars is a venue filled with rustic charm influenced by French architecture.  The ten acre estate has beautiful gardens, ponds and alpacas peering over the fence nearby.

I loved working with Amy and Rodney creating their dream wedding.  Did I mention the most they had the most adorable ring-bearers ever?

Thank you Brittany of Blue Rose Photography for the beautiful pictures below.

Farm Wedding

14 Jul

The Star Valley Farm is a private 5-star facility specializing in dressage training and instruction located in Longbranch, WA on the beautiful Key Peninsula – just minutes southwest of Gig Harbor.  It also happened to be the venue for Amy and Nick’s wedding back in May.

When I first visited the farm, there was a lot of work that needed to be done in the areas Amy and Nick chose to have their ceremony, but with the help of their wedding party and some dedicated friends, they created a lovely setting for the big day.

In addition to getting the farm ready for the big day, the groom also built the boxes used for the centerpieces as well as some tack boxes for the bridesmaids, all who are equestrian enthusiasts.  Who doesn’t appreciate a groom that is handy and willing to build things for his bride?

Peonies, poppy pods, succulents, roses, stock and football mums in shades of white, peach and blush were used in creating the bouquets and centerpieces.  The ceremony was performed under two very large oak trees from which we hung wreaths decorated with clusters of flowers in varying sizes while guests sat on bales of hay.

Below are some of the pictures taken by the very talented BreeAnna Lasher of ElevenEleven Films.

Roche Harbor Wedding

9 Apr

I have to tell you, Melinda and Casey have been one of my all time favorite couples to work with.  Not only are they two of the nicest people you will ever meet, but there is something about the love they share for each other that just radiates.  Their wedding was held last September at the beautiful Roche Harbor Resort in the San Juan Islands.  With outdoor weddings, you never know how the weather will be here in the Pacific Northwest, but we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day of warm temperatures and sunshine.

Casey is a fabulous chef and for the rehearsal dinner he and his fellow associates put together one of the most amazing rehearsal dinners I have ever had.  If you ever need a caterer, check out his web-site at www.barnandfield.com, he creates really amazing food.  The dinner was held at the beach adjacent to the resort followed by a beautiful sunset.  Guests enjoyed roasting marshmallows and making ‘smores by the campfire.  It was a great way to set the mood for the wedding the next day.

Melinda had a lot of ideas for the overall feel of the wedding design, yet was open to any suggestions I made.  She also allowed a lot of creative freedom when it came to designing their wedding and all the little details, the result being one of my favorite weddings.

The bridesmaids wore slate grey dresses complimented by flowers in shades of blush, pink, coral and white used to create the bouquets.  Did I mention they had the most adorable ring bearer ever (who just happens to be our great nephew)?  He surprised everyone by walking very carefully down the aisle with a ring box designed just for Melinda and Casey.

For ceremony decor, we rented a birch arbor and glass globes from Vintage Ambiance.  The globes were filled with simple clusters of flowers and hung from the arbor.  With the backdrop of the harbor and the approaching dusk, it set the stage for a beautiful ceremony.   Posters made by Citalia Creative greeted guests at the entrance as well as the reception area.  My husband and I also made directional signs leading to the ceremony.  Photographs are taken by the fabulous team of Rick + Anna Photography and, as always, they captured the day perfectly.

The reception area was decorated with blush colored linens rented from BBJ Linens, with floral centerpieces in mercury glass vases and tall trumpet vases placed on wood discs with touches of moss at the base and surrounded by a variety of mercury glass votives.  Sequined blush colored linens were used for the sweetheart and cake tables.

In honor of Casey’s chef background, guests were all given vials of Himilayian Pink Salt, Black Hawaiian Salt and Kosher Salt in a packet with a sprig of fresh rosemary attached to each package.

We rented a crystal chandelier from Vintage Ambiance and hung it from the beams in the dining area.  Seeing that the chandelier would get lost if we didn’t decorate it a little, I created a garland of greens, flowers and curly willow to accent the beams.  The standard white folding chairs provided by the resort really didn’t work with the overall look and feel we were trying to achieve, so vintage farm style chairs were rented from Orcas Events.

The large fireplace was a perfect spot to place a collection of mercury glass votives and candle holders as well as rustic lanterns and floating candles which were placed on wood discs with touches of moss at the base.  All the sparking candlelight added a very romantic touch to the room.

Ekaterina and Ben

21 Oct

Working in the wedding industry, I am often surprised how easily it is to fall into the current trend someone may have seen on Pinterest or the current bridal magazine.  I love it when a bride branches out of the trends and follows her own style choosing her colors and flowers that fit her personality.  When I met Ekaterina to discuss her flowers, I was excited that she would be using a color palette of orange and peach.  I love working with orange because it is such a happy color and there is such a large variety of flowers to choose from as well as a large variation of hues ranging from soft peach to vibrant orange.

The wedding was held at Lake Wilderness Lodge back in June.  A unique venue run by the City of Maple Valley with a quiet lake and surrounded by a peaceful forest.  The bride carried a large cascading bouquet of  roses, orchids, calla lilies, hydrangea and alstroemeria with a single wax ginger in the very center.

Small clusters of flowers were placed in vases and hung from shepherds hooks leading down the aisle.  The arrangements were later transferred to the tables and used as centerpieces.

Vintage Photo Shoot

12 Aug

Back in May my friend Ashley of Berryessa Photography  asked me to provide some floral for a vintage wedding styled shoot she organized at Twin Willow Gardens in Snohomish.  Since it was in May, I had plenty of beautiful floral to choose from, including of course lovely Peonies and Amaryllis.  Soft muted tones of peach, coral and white were used to create the bouquets, floral crown and centerpieces.  Vintage lace was used to wrap the bouquet as well as hang down the back of the floral crown.

A table was set using vintage place settings  provided by Lisa of Vintage Dish Company.  The day started out a beautiful sunny day, but shortly after setting up, a huge rain storm came through and doused us all.    As always Ashley captured some amazing photos.
