In the Desert

27 Oct

Wow, what a crazy summer it has been!  I have been so busy, I have not had time to post any of events for some time and thought now the busy wedding season is over, I could finally catch up on some much overdue blogging.

Back in January I attended a web-site design class and had the honor of meeting two fabulous photographers – Nicole Conner of Nicole Conner Photography and Miguel Cornelio of Momentus Images.  When I found out they were both from Wenatchee, Washington – the town I lived in during my teen years, I had to introduce myself.  Turns out Miguel lives not too far from where I now live!  When they reached out and asked me to provide florals for a photo shoot they were planning in May, of course I happily obliged.  These two are amazing photographers and it was such a pleasure working with them. They gave me the freedom to create with a soft color pallet being my only guideline.  Of course, I had to add a little pop of color into the mix!  May is such an amazing time for flowers with peonies and double tulips in abundance – you just can’t go wrong.  Sadly, I could not be there for the shoot, but I just love how the pictures turned out.

As with any photo shoot – it really takes a village to pull it all together.  These amazing vendors really brought it all together.

Love at the Winery

11 Sep

Now that the crazy wedding rush of summer is over, I finally get a chance to share some of the many wonderful weddings I worked on this spring and summer.

On a beautiful sunny day in May Amy and Rodney were married at DeLille Cellars Chateau in Woodinville Washington.  DeLille Cellars is a venue filled with rustic charm influenced by French architecture.  The ten acre estate has beautiful gardens, ponds and alpacas peering over the fence nearby.

I loved working with Amy and Rodney creating their dream wedding.  Did I mention the most they had the most adorable ring-bearers ever?

Thank you Brittany of Blue Rose Photography for the beautiful pictures below.

Coral Wedding

10 Jun

Two years ago I was lucky enough to work with this fantastic couple on their wedding.  I knew the minute I met Melissa that this was going to be a fun project!  Her color pallet of coral, mint and navy with lots of details was a refreshing change from all the purple I did that year.

The wedding was held at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Reception following at the Museum of History and Industry on South Lake Union.  If you haven’t ever been to the Museum of History and Industry, it is a very enjoyable place to tour and see some of Seattle’s history as well as a great venue to for a reception!

The bride and bridesmaids all got ready at Melissa and Chris’s home on Queen Ann and we decorated it with a beautiful garland around the front door and master bedroom window.  Although I was extremely nervous hanging on to my husband while he hung out of the third floor window, it all came together in the end (whew!)

The bride carried a large bouquet of dahlias, garden roses, roses, hypericum berries and spider mums and for fun – a touch of feathers!  On their first date the groom brought Melissa some spider mums so she wanted to incorporate them into the bouquet as a sweet reminder of that special day.

The tables were decorated with navy chevron table runners and Melissa’s collection of vintage jadeite glassware.  Vintage styled postcards acted as table numbers and mint green suitcases held a large colorful floral arrangements.

Glamping

12 May

With the approach of Memorial Day and camping season starting up, I thought this would be a great time to post about the “glamping” photo shoot I participated in back in May of 2013.   Coordinated by the fabulous ladies at Maris Events and amazing photography team of Rick+Anna Photography we were given complete freedom to run with our ideas to assist in creating the perfect “glamping” themed wedding.

I loaded up the van with just about every prop I could imagine – including a steamer trunk, all the vintage suitcases I owned as well as buckets full of colorful flowers and headed to the beautiful Natures Connection Place in Arlington, Washington.  It was a gorgeous day and we immediately started setting up the area to be a picture perfect setting for the bride and groom.

With all the greenery surrounding the area, we decided to use bright reds, oranges and pops of yellow with touches of gold to add a little bit of glamor to the outdoors.  A candelabra created using wood branches sprayed gold added a touch of elegance to the hand made wood table provided by Elpis and Wood.    Yummy desserts created by Dianne’s Delights were almost too much for us to resist during shooting, but we did our best!  That’s not to say, however, that they didn’t get eaten – we saved that for later.  The talented husband and wife team of Citlali Creativo created all the great stationery products including save the date, invitations, candle wraps, programs and even cake pop flags!

I had such fun working with so many talented and delightful vendors.  Maybe this will inspire everyone to go camping – even me!

Roche Harbor Wedding

9 Apr

I have to tell you, Melinda and Casey have been one of my all time favorite couples to work with.  Not only are they two of the nicest people you will ever meet, but there is something about the love they share for each other that just radiates.  Their wedding was held last September at the beautiful Roche Harbor Resort in the San Juan Islands.  With outdoor weddings, you never know how the weather will be here in the Pacific Northwest, but we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day of warm temperatures and sunshine.

Casey is a fabulous chef and for the rehearsal dinner he and his fellow associates put together one of the most amazing rehearsal dinners I have ever had.  If you ever need a caterer, check out his web-site at www.barnandfield.com, he creates really amazing food.  The dinner was held at the beach adjacent to the resort followed by a beautiful sunset.  Guests enjoyed roasting marshmallows and making ‘smores by the campfire.  It was a great way to set the mood for the wedding the next day.

Melinda had a lot of ideas for the overall feel of the wedding design, yet was open to any suggestions I made.  She also allowed a lot of creative freedom when it came to designing their wedding and all the little details, the result being one of my favorite weddings.

The bridesmaids wore slate grey dresses complimented by flowers in shades of blush, pink, coral and white used to create the bouquets.  Did I mention they had the most adorable ring bearer ever (who just happens to be our great nephew)?  He surprised everyone by walking very carefully down the aisle with a ring box designed just for Melinda and Casey.

For ceremony decor, we rented a birch arbor and glass globes from Vintage Ambiance.  The globes were filled with simple clusters of flowers and hung from the arbor.  With the backdrop of the harbor and the approaching dusk, it set the stage for a beautiful ceremony.   Posters made by Citalia Creative greeted guests at the entrance as well as the reception area.  My husband and I also made directional signs leading to the ceremony.  Photographs are taken by the fabulous team of Rick + Anna Photography and, as always, they captured the day perfectly.

The reception area was decorated with blush colored linens rented from BBJ Linens, with floral centerpieces in mercury glass vases and tall trumpet vases placed on wood discs with touches of moss at the base and surrounded by a variety of mercury glass votives.  Sequined blush colored linens were used for the sweetheart and cake tables.

In honor of Casey’s chef background, guests were all given vials of Himilayian Pink Salt, Black Hawaiian Salt and Kosher Salt in a packet with a sprig of fresh rosemary attached to each package.

We rented a crystal chandelier from Vintage Ambiance and hung it from the beams in the dining area.  Seeing that the chandelier would get lost if we didn’t decorate it a little, I created a garland of greens, flowers and curly willow to accent the beams.  The standard white folding chairs provided by the resort really didn’t work with the overall look and feel we were trying to achieve, so vintage farm style chairs were rented from Orcas Events.

The large fireplace was a perfect spot to place a collection of mercury glass votives and candle holders as well as rustic lanterns and floating candles which were placed on wood discs with touches of moss at the base.  All the sparking candlelight added a very romantic touch to the room.

Vintage Photo Shoot

12 Aug

Back in May my friend Ashley of Berryessa Photography  asked me to provide some floral for a vintage wedding styled shoot she organized at Twin Willow Gardens in Snohomish.  Since it was in May, I had plenty of beautiful floral to choose from, including of course lovely Peonies and Amaryllis.  Soft muted tones of peach, coral and white were used to create the bouquets, floral crown and centerpieces.  Vintage lace was used to wrap the bouquet as well as hang down the back of the floral crown.

A table was set using vintage place settings  provided by Lisa of Vintage Dish Company.  The day started out a beautiful sunny day, but shortly after setting up, a huge rain storm came through and doused us all.    As always Ashley captured some amazing photos.

Peach and Plum

26 Jun

I have known Hana for quite a long time as she is a regular client of mine through her work.  So I was especially honored to be the one she chose to do her florals for her recent wedding.  Since the work we do together usually requires using purple flowers, I was a little surprised that she chose to go with a purple color pallet!  The best thing about working with Hana is that she is flexible and open to new ideas.  So when I suggested using a pale pallet of peach, blush and ivory to coordinate with her plum colored linens and bridesmaids dresses, she was open to the idea and gave me a lot of creative freedom.

The combination of soft colored flowers really complimented the brides beautiful dress.  By adding lavender colored roses to the bridesmaids bouquets it helped tie in the purple to coordinate with their dresses.

Hana wanted to have just a touch of vintage, but still compliment her modern style invitations.  I found the perfect mercury glass pedestal vases to use for the round tables and clusters of smaller mercury glass vases were used for the long tables.  Grapes were added to the larger arrangements adding the pop of purple to the arrangements.  Of course, you can never get too many candles, so I brought almost my entire supply, even creating a backdrop for the sweetheart table with varying sizes of pillar candles.
